Days 3

Early breakfast at your hotel and transfer to Guayaquil airport for the two and a half hour flight to Baltra, Galapagos. Upon arrival at Baltra airport you will be met and transferred to the pier to board the M/VGalapagos Legend, for an unforgettable cruise of the Galapagos Islands. The cruise starts with a visit to North Seymour Island, where you can admire swallow tailed gulls and sea lions. This site is a major nesting colony of blue footed boobies and has the largest colony of the magnificent frigate bird. You will also spot both marine iguanas and land iguanas, and have opportunity for snorkeling.

Days 4

Start the day exploring the west coast of Santa Cruz Island. Walk to a saltwater lagoon behind the beach, where on occasion many pink flamingos can be observed and continue the trail up to the Dragon Hill, from where you will enjoy a lovely view of the bay. This is a nesting site for reintroduced land iguanas, and there is also a Scalesia tree forest. Alternatively you may opt to take a dinghy to Venice islet to observe the vegetation and marine animals including spotted eagle rays, golden rays, mullets, sharks and sea turtles. Land iguanas have often been observed as well. The next stop is Cormorant Point on Floreana (Santa Maria Island), where you will hike from the black mangrove beds to a large, salty lagoon holding one of the biggest flamingo populations in the Galapagos. The island is best known for its endemic plants like the Galapagos milkwort, passion flower and button mangrove. You may also snorkel at the main beach with the playful sea lions.

Days 5

The first call today is on Española Island, at Suarez Point, where you will learn about the lava terrain and cross the inactive lava fields. Besides housing significant colonies of sea lions, it is also an important bird watching site, where many species such as the hooded mocking bird and red billed tropic bird can be spotted and observed up close. You will also have the chance to see a large colony of marine iguanas, lava lizards, and Sally lightfoot crabs. A short trek takes you to colonies of masked and bluefooted boobies, whose nesting grounds sometimes overlap the trail, and then leads to the world’s largest colony of waved albatross. A major highlight is their mating season, from May through December. Before departing from Española, there will be a visit to the famous blowhole, where water shoots into the air about 23 m high. The cruise continues to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristóbal Island, where you will visit the San Cristóbal breeding center and learn about the National Park’s breeding program for giant turtles, as well as observe some animals in their natural environment.

Days 6

In the morning you will explore the area around Carrión Point on Santa Cruz Island, where you will have a chance to snorkel and see a variety of fish, rays and perhaps even some harmless white tip reef sharks. From Punta Carrion a short navigation takes us through the beautiful Itabaca Channel with its intense turquoise waters. Return to the Galapagos Legend, check-out and transfer to Baltra airport for your return flight to Quito. A transfer will take you from Quito airport to your hotel for overnight accommodation.
